I cannot believe . . .

that I missed this movie up till now. I kept thinking, "here's where it will get preachy and I will have to turn it off." But it never did. I really enjoyed all of the performances and felt that the portrayal of the South was brutal, but fair. There was a bit of expository speech I could have done without, but that was more an issue (I think) of bad time management/script flow than bad movie.
