How did this get even 5 stars?

This film was laughably bad. I can't remember seeing anything so cliched in a long time.

A few observations:

The film looks dated even for 1992. It looks more like 1985 or so. Perhaps it sat in a can for a few years before being released.

A robot named Madonna. Really? What was that thing doing in this movie? Who thought that was a good idea?

Brosnan couldn't stay in his accent. He slipped in and out of some vague East Coast tough guy accent and his British accent constantly. If people are going to see this movie, it would be for Brosnan, so why bother with an accent at all?

The effects were hokey. I don't especially expect big budget effects, but I do think they should get the details right. For example, when the restaurant explodes in the beginning of the film, the pedestrian walking past the windows catches fire, but he doesn't fall down or show any other sign of the blast. That's just lazy effects.

I thought that it was a generally good movie, but I could do without the millions of cliches. Why can't a bachelor with no family and no love life ever be the hero?

I liked the movie and thought it was good.
