Scary?

Why does the majority of people think that this movie was scary? I've never seen it, but by talking to people who have seen it and reading different posts on this website...people are afraid of this movie. WHY?

Well, take a look at it, & you'll find out!

Ratigan...I think that you are a slimy, contemptible SEWER RAT!

Cause people are weird. No, maybe because the comic it was based off was for a different time, so the movie itself would also be for a different time. I remember watching it when I was 7 or 8, and I loved it, I watched Aliens when I was 4 or 5, and that scared the hell out of me. Perhaps, Oompy, Oomp, Oompa, Oompo and Flip are all scary in their own way, maybe we are too used to the sappy, waterdowned version of classic stories that Disney sends us.

I remember being read fairy tales as ac child, then when I was older, by chance I picked up a book of fairy tales from the Brothers Grimm, the REAL ones, mind you. And quite frankly, they live up to the authors' name. They are very grim indeed, with stuff that would faze an adult today. With most Disney movies, they change alot of it make it more child-friendly.

I never found it as scary, but it was always unnerving and confusing to watch as a child. Now I think it's awesome because of it's nightmarish qualities and schizophrenic tone. Sometime I'd like to do some acid and just sit and watch this movie and see how twisted it could really get! :-P

I never thought of it as scary, but I could see why some people one. Nightmare Land is a very dark and creepy place, also there are some semi violent moments throughout.

I used to watch this movie non-stop when I was four until I was eight. It never scared me, but mostly because I never knew what was going on, no matter how many times I watched it. It was just too confusing for me. I can remember the story somewhat right now, but I think it was just too fast for me to follow. I still have my copy, but..Don't really feel like watching it anymore...Never scared me, though. I get scared by my own ideas, and paranoia (Like I'll be walking to my room from the bathroom at night, and then get a freaky image of a ghost walking behind me, and run into my bedroom and lock the door...) so movies never scare me...

Definitely because of the fight with the evil monster at the end. And there was a belief Nemo was killed in the battle as well, seeming to get a kind of Snow White having eaten the poison apple bit, but yea, it watches a bit hard.

I saw it for the first time when I was in my twenties. I love animation and cartoons.

Rewatching it now, it really isn't so clear in it's 'happiness' aspects either. Why is everyone so automatically happy?

But yea, just watching it now, the darkness depictions are way over the top for a cartoon.

It's not Wicked Witch or Child-Snatcher either.
