There Will Be Blood

After seeing Lessons of Darkness I cannot help but think of the P.T. Anderson film. Both present flaming oil towers in an artistic way and BOTH use music by Arvo Part, the modern composer. Also in both films you will see how an oil fire is put out; by filling an oil barrel with explosives and pushing it into the fire, exploding the dynamite and robbing the fire of oxygen long enough to extinguish the blaze. Apparently the method is exactly the same, whether you are in 19th century California or 1991 Kuwait. I have a feeling P.T. Anderson has seen and been influenced by this film.

Anybody else think of TWBB after watching Lessons of Darkness?

Too crazy for boys town. Too much of a boy for crazy town!

It's hard to say, but he definitely could have been. I hadn't thought of it personally, but now that you mention it I can see where you're coming from.

The dark tone and even the pacing of the film does resemble Lessons In Darkness.
