Philip Seymour Hoffman

I like this film and have watched it often, but not for a long time. I've just noticed that Philip Seymour Hoffman is in the cast list, playing a character called Matt. The last time I saw this must have been before I 'discovered' PSH, and I can't remember who Matt was. Can anybody help? Is he one of the people on the bus? In the town? Is he healed?

The reason I haven't watched it for a while is that I had it on video: note to self, buy the DVD.

PSH is one of the guys on the bus who works with Steve Martin/Jonas. He's in it all the way through but he doesn't hardly have any lines. It's a brilliant film though I just watched it yesterday. Steve Martin should have got an oscar nod for it.

PSH plays the worker that always has the bandana on his head, and flirts with the young girls.

Great movie!

When people find the extra money in their wallets, PSH gestures to the other guy about it and silently laughs about it. He's probably a rookie in the troupe still learning the ropes.

You completely missed that.
People were suposed to have gotten an extra $20.
The glitter jeans girl yelled "and I got $40!"
Matt gestures to the other guy with 2 fingers and points as in "did YOU give her $20 TOO?" and then they laugh because the guys were both trying to flirt with the cute girl and make her feel good and they both gave her a $20.

PSH is the guy at the end that suggest they put the crippled boy, he says " you give that kid a hair cut man you put him in some fancy clothes you PUT that kid ON THE STAGE thats money in the bank man. we go to dallas we could make seven figures. just watched it what an obviously incredibly underrated film that this is, brilliance.

It was the first movie I'd seen him in; when I saw Twister I thought "hey, it's that guy!" I'm going to miss him.

There's someone in my head but it's not me.

First movie I saw him in also. I remember how much I loved the scene where he calls Martin a genius.

I think unknowingly this is the first film I ever saw him in. The first film I knowingly saw him in was Patch Adams. When I went back and watched this film again, and noticed Philip's name in the opening credits, I began looking for him and couldn't find him. Then I watched again, and realized he was Matt, the guy always flirting with the girls. I was shocked at how YOUNG he looked, and how different he looked from his character, Mitch, in Patch Adams. Every time I watch this film (Leap of Faith) it amazes me. He looked so YOUNG, and so rugged. Very different from the look of the characters he'd played since Leap of Faith. In all movies I've seen him in since, he has this middle-class, average, clean cut look to him. I'm not saying it's a bad thing, it's just interesting.
