I loved this great under rated movie. Steve Martin's best film.

There is not one thing I did not like about this movie. I absolutely loved Steve Martin's performance. I remember when I saw Fletch I thought it was the perfect vehicle for Chevy Chase. Well this was the perfect vehicle for Steve Martin. And Debra Winger never looked better. The acting and script were perfect. The movie produced laughs and tears. The religious right hated it because it lampooned their hypocrisy. But I think the movie hit the nail on the head. Add to that its awesome soundtrack and sweet inspiring ending and you have one of my favorite films of all time. This is from someone who walks out on most films I see. Oh and by the way, they did not need CGI effects or nude sex scenes or bloody gun battles etc etc. That is why a great script and character development can do.
Anyone that has never seen this movie I would highly recommend it. To those who did not like this movie, well I guess we just have to agree to disagree. To each his own.

I agree! I could find nothing to dislike about this film. I've seen it at least ten times, and each time I see it, I like it more. Definitely one of Steve Martin's best, along with Shopgirl. I like him a lot better in dramas than comedies.

Yes Straykitten, Steve Martin showed a lot of range in this. Not just being a goofball, but a very interesting complex individual. He does make me laugh with his antics. He really made me believe in his character.
