My favorite Christian film

I know a lot of people might wonder how I could possibly call this a Christian film. Well, it isn't in the traditional sense. In this case because it is much more realistic. I love the fact that there is a deeply flawed man who uses Christianity to hurt innocent people. He takes their money, leaves town, and doesn't care who he hurts along the way. But something happens in the film, that greatly changes his outlook. I particularly love the scene where he is screaming at God. I've been there. I also love how he initially tries to brush off the transformative event that makes him start to question his life. I've been there also. This film is more real than any "Christian" film on the market. It doesn't pull punches, it doesn't water down the language; it's raw. And it's the power of Steve Martin's performance as the sleazy, but likable fake evangelist, that makes the transformative finale so much more powerful. On a sidenote, the music is pretty good too.

Agreed. This film touches on the humanity between people, rather than forcing everyone to fit into the ultra clean world where even "evil" atheists use heck and gosh. This movie also exposes a serious issue within modern Christianity, which is that many people seek out these faith healers and lose their money to con-men who distort the faith in the name of profit.
