If he painted eyes on the statue (hence making it a "suffering statue"), wouldn't the paint still be wet? It couldn't have dried so soon, could it?

When Jonas leaves his motel room one of the things he puts in the box was a hair dryer. I assume he used it to dry the paint, so it wouldn't be wet to the touch, giving away the con.
