I can't remember, but did Dottie give a proper reason for quitting the league at the end?
Was it because of Kit? Or because of Bob? Or was it because she just didn't want to play anymore?
She always seemed like she was ready to quit throughout the whole movie, but she also seemed to enjoy the game so I don't really get it. It just seems like such a shame for her to leave the league considering how talented she is and how much fun she was having while playing.
Shortly after Racine won the AAGPBL world series there was a scene where Dottie and Kit discussed his. Dottie wanted to go back home with Bob. They wanted to have kids right away, so playing another season was less important than starting a family. Kit stayed in Racine and planned to play again the next season.
shareBaseball was a conflict for Dottie.
Jimmy commented that she played the game like she loved it, and even as she denied that, we could see the conflict in her denial.
She did love the game, but what she loved more was her married life with Bob. As much as she loved playing, she couldn't wait to get back home and raise a family.
Off topic, but if I was Bob, I would have insisted my wife stay and finish the season and playoffs and hope she agreed. As Kit said, she had a lifetime to start a family. Another couple of weeks wouldn't have mattered, but to leave her teammates and friends when she was their best player didn't fit her character.
Her husband came home from war. She saw the other team member get the “telegram of sorrow” and it shook her. Also she loved her sister and saw The League as a chance for her to shine and get out from under her shadow.
