GREAT NEWS FOR LM DIRECTOR'S CUT!

The lawnmower man was on the sci-fi channel tonight and it was the Director's cut of the movie, in WIDESCREEN, with all of the cut material (including the connective scenes from the director's cut vhs)in it! Unfortunately, i forgot about it being on t.v. until it was an hour into the movie!! So it's not a dvd release, but hey, at least we know know that a widescreen print of the director's cut exists somewhere! I hope it airs again soon!!!

They were probably showing a copy made from the laserdisc release years ago. Though it was also released on VHS, the laserdisc had the better quality and would serve to be the best one to copy and show on the air.

OK, so what's the speed of dark?

Germany has a copy of the Director's cut on DVD...
Strange...
Wonder why it's not released in a North American Market.
I'd buy it.

reply

how do you know it was the directors cut? did it say it was the directors cut?

I just saw it for basically the first time on SCI-FI right now, but i don't know if it was the directors cut. I saw the movie a little when i was younger, but i don't remember it, so i don't know if it was the directors cut. Sci-Fi didn't say it was the directors cut.

reply

I just bought it and now I am reading this..... :-(

I viewed all the deleted scenes and it would help the story to re-incorporate some of them I thought. I hope there will be a dvd release of the director's cut!

New Line should just redo the DVD, two-disc Platinum Series with both cuts, remastered audio and video (the VR scenes would be killer in 6.1 DTS-ES surround), and retain all the old features and do some new ones (maybe some stuff on how Stephen King sued the filmmakers and had his name removed).

I completely agree with you, patrick_bateman. As far as getting the DC, I bought a copy of the Director's Cut DVD from Flesh Wound Video. The quality is very good - probably copied from the Laserdisc rather than the VHS.

I just wanted to make SURE that I left this message on here; previously I had ERRONEOUSLY stated that Fleshwound video had sent me the wrong film (the cut version) but I was COMPLETELY mistaken and there had been a mistake elsewhere.

My humble apologies!

So, they did send you the DC?

My friend ordered it from him and it is hopefully on the way; I've heard from GERMITE above and he said that he had ordered a number of things from FLESHWOUNDVIDEO and got everything just fine : )

I just ordered the Lawnmower Man Director's Cut DVD from Fleshwoundvideo and received it within three days after it shipped. The print isn't exactly great in terms of resolution (I'm guessing it's sourced from the Laserdisc), and there are one or two very brief frame problems, but it's clean, has pretty good color, and is darn well good enough for me. It's even got some special features on it (most of which can admittedly be found on the Region 1 DVD). Having grown up with the Director's Cut of the film on VHS, I am perfectly happy at having purchased the Fleshwound DVD.

There's also some framing problems on the DC VHS. I have the DC LaserDisc but no player right now so I can't test it out, but a lot of releases seem to have mediocre picture and sound, including some VHS releases. My theory is that they used the original film print for the LaserDiscs and then used the LaserDiscs for the VHS, DVD and TV releases.

I can't compare every edition so I'm not sure how accurate my theory is but it's a possibility. Thing is, 35mm prints for the film exist. I know because I have some of it. Only problem is it's cut in to 5 frame strips, but it would be interesting to check out the quality of it.

I'm pleased to see a strand dedicated to the director's cut of this film. I stumbled across the video version that had the original opening and I tried to buy it on DVD. The DVD company that listed this said it was the director's cut version had the extra 19 or however many minutes included but when it arrived, I saw it was the same normal DVD release I had. I used to check every now and again for this extended version but my attempts were fruitless. I'm glad to hear the version is out there somewhere {:o)

here in the uk my friend had it on dvd,it was not a copy/pirate..it had the cover the others have with "35 extra minutes of footage" on the front..made it a much better film.

I now have the Special Edition Director's Cut LaserDisc, which is incredibly awesome. Widescreen transfer, THX approved soundtrack, behind the scenes stills and footage and commentary from Brett Leonard!

I don't care about any DVD releases now. lol

Just found this out on DVDAf. Unless I missed my mark, it looks like Universal is releasing the director's cut of this film onto DVD in the UK, as a double feature with part 2.

Here's hoping Shout Factory releases the director's cut!

reply

I doubt you'll reply to this but it's not going to happen on Shout!'s watch because New Line/Warner has the rights.
