Simple plot with OTT, repetitive action scenes where the heroes are basically superheros with guns who seem to be bulletproof. I've never been fan of Woo's slow,motion, doves flying, OTT repetive style of action. So overrated.
The fans of this movie are such hypocrites. They bash superhero movies, Transformers, The Fast and the Furious etc for being mindless and OTT with simple plots yet turn a blind to eye to such an OTT, mind-numbing action movie.

shareI don't think anyone in Hong Kong considers this "art." They consider it a mindless action movie, the same as you. It's only in the West, where subtitles are automatically equated with "art," that this film is considered an heir to 8 1/2.

shareMost of Woo's films are overrated, his melodrama and suspension of disbelief can be rank. But the application of auteur techniques to an action movie were forward for the era since most were just standard coverage and linear/continuity editing. His temporal ellipsis, juxtaposition and Gun Fu choreography expanded the genre.
