Suitable for young children?

Well, Invision, there's nothing that a normal person would deem 'unsuitable', I don't think, but it isn't a film intended for children; Miyazaki has said that he created it for weary businessmen. I understand that the American dub has 'jollied it up' for family audiences, how ghastly. Why not watch it yourself first and then decide?

I'd say it's safe- just remember though that this film has the oldest target audience of all his work. It certainly won't connect with her on the same level as Ponyo and Totoro. I'd probably recommend Kiki's Delivery Service or Spirited Away for now, maybe show her Porco Rosso when she's a bit older, say 10 or so.

Yes. I imagine the only reason its rated PG is because there are Machine guns in it. No ne is killed on screen and the few people that are killed fly off to heaven.

Oh, that I had time to pre-watch every movie I might like to share with my children. We've already been through Totoro (about 50 times), Ponyo, and Kiki, as well as Spirited Away and Whisper of the Heart. Plus Takahata's Pom Poko for good measure.

This actually sounds less disturbing to a 4-year-old than Nausicaa or Princess Mononoke. But maybe we'll try Howl's Moving Castle first.
