Menstrual Horror

I may be entirely off base on this one, but is the first movie that uses menstration as a horror device? It's one way be guarantee you get lots of blood into your film (snicker), but there is a lot to be said about created a horror film from the woman's perspective. That is, not the woman who is the only one left after everybody else has been killed including her boyfriend who was slaughtered immediately after they had sex. Just wondering if anybody had any thoughts on the subjects of menstrual horror (a masculine fear of "something that bleeds for five days and doesn't die", women protagonists in horror, etc.
