The HAIR

Because there isn't a topic solely about it already.

Hair like that was NOT normal then or now. Johnny Bravo took lessons from this guy.

I had crazy hair in the eighties, who didn't? But you've got to remember this movie was made in 1991.

your thoughts?

My favourite film.

As DiCillo himself says:

"The central, and painstakingly obvious conceit of the movie is that Johnny Suede is a FOOL. I gave him a pompador that big so emphasize this. He looks like an idiot. He can’t even tell that in his desire to look different he’s made him self look ridiculous. That was the whole point."

DiCillo was also..." particularly fascinated with the rockabilly/punk scene in NYC in the early ’70’s. Even just on a visual level it was mind-blowing". Presumably this was a big influence on The Johnny Suede character which started life as an onstage project for the director. Brad Pitt's wardrobe actually belonged to DiCillo, before being nicked during filming. The clothes had to be remade for the rest of the shoot.

It comes from his rockabilly obsession, and that he's an idiot. He's trying to look like someone from the 50's, he's against all the 80's stuff.
