Shoe symbolism

I was trying to recall what the 'man with one shoe' traditionally meant, and I remembered that in the Masonic initiation ceremony the neophyte wears one sign, basically as a sign that he can be trusted. Does that mean that when JS wears one shoe at the end, he's finally grown up?

There's also some Freudian stuff about the shoe symbolising the vagina, which would fit with his 'sex education' scene.

Not sure where I'm going with this; just wondered if that chimed with anyone else?

What was your take on it?

Obviously you don't know or you would have given your take on the symbolic nature of the shoes in the story.

RIP Philip Seymour Hoffman 1967-2014... a tremendously great and talented actor.
