So many investigators for such a small town

did anyone else find it strange that there would be so many investigators working for the Eureka Police Department, or that so many of them weren't even native to Eureka, including the red headed Chief?

I looked up the city's statistics and to this day it doesn't hold more than 27,000 people. I've been to Eureka a couple of times and I don't even recall seeing any local police. Since Highway 101 runs through it I probably saw three California Highway Patrol cars the whole time I was there or driving thru.

I lived in Eureka for a year or two, and there is a city-police force in the downtown area. But, yeah, there wouldn't be all those detectives.

There had been a gruesome murder and they came from all over the place.

It didn't look like that, with them investigators havinf filing cabinets and all in their own offices.

I thought, the two detectives (Taylor and his partner) and Henriksens character were the three detectives. Berlin does a lot of labwork too, was he brought in for that? Surely a regular detective doesn't do all that himself. Especially if he isn't trained for it.

30k citizens means they can have 1 cop for every thousand citizens - so 30 cops, or 3 shifts of ten cops each.

Say three or 4 cops are detectives on a 9-5 shift.
They would cover every non-emergency crime (burglaries, shop-lifting, etc) while the emergency 911 calls, traffic stops, etc all over the county would be the uniformed cops' job.

Sounds about right.

Eureka only has 27K, so using your math Eureka should only have ONE COP? LOL

Even so, your point is invalid as that's not how police department staffing is calculated.
