Questions about the title and more

Neil Pettigrew wrote (in his The Stop-Motion Filmography; McFarland & Company, Inc.; 1999; p. 489) that this film, which he lists flatly as Naked Robot 4 1/2, was shot "...as a straight SF thriller..." then converted to a comedy. He then claimed that the Naked... title "...clumsily replaces the original working title (Invader) during the opening credits [emphasis added, but not the parentheses]." Admittedly, Pettigrew is British and Naked... is listed here as the UK release title, but would that not leave us with a very different cut for each of these two titles? Neil does list alternate release titles for many of the films he discusses, but does not mention "Invader" other than that one in-text allusion already quoted. There are no "Trivia" or "Alternate Version" notes here, nor a separate IMDb listing for Naked Robot 4 1/2 (precedent: separate entries for the original Japanese Gojira and the reworked American version Godzilla, King of the Monsters). Netflix offers it (as Invader with the Naked... title acknowledged), with no hint of comedy in their listing; Pettigrew describes it as containing much, if not necessarily successful, such material. Of the four member reviews of this film on Netflix's site, one says, "Fortunately, it's not a straight sci-fi action flick -- the makers were aware of their limitations and had a sense of humor about it." Exactly how much humor he found in the movie is obviously unclear. The other three Netflix reviews make no mention of comedy at all. Amazon.com has nothing under either title. Can anyone help me out here?

UPDATE: Thanks to Netflix (or Quikster, whatever), I've now seen this film and see some but not much deliberate humor in it. Most of what there is comes from the giant robot's dialogue, which I strongly suspect was added as an afterthought. This still leaves us with one question: Was Pettigrew justified in claiming a great deal of post-production reworking, along with the title change, to make this a spoof in his country, or not?
