why do you think the boy in the valley scene scares people so much?

including me. I remember watching the film for the first time. The scenes before were giving me the chills but nothing I couldn't handle. Then when this moment happened, I pretty much jumped out of my seat and had to stop the film. It totally freaked me out. I felt uneasy the whole rest of the night and had to sleep with the light on, mainly due to that scene! lol

It looks Like I am not the only one who got freaked out at that scene. I wonder what it is about it that scares us so much, I guess the fast cut is part of the reason

I never saw that coming!!! I couldn't sleep for days!!! I was like 14 at the time and no alien movie beat this movie for me (not even "Signs", "The Fourth Kind" "Alien Abduction: Incident in Lake County", "Fire in the sky" or "Dark Skies") was intense and the fact that is "based on real stories" make it creepier

Hey OP- there are two reasons that scene scares so many people. One is because you like everyone else saw it at a young age and so seeing two similarly young kids in that horror scene would have made u empathise to a great extent. Two is the fact that there are quick cuts revealing the surprise of the ufo and then the boy turning around- sudden jumps that stick in your mind. I saw it aged 7 and cannot forget it to this day! I think I pretty much blew my 'horror fuse' after seeing the whole thing.

Yes my "horror fuse" was blown too since I was young like you smackajacka when I saw this movie. iT was scary because it was a surprise. I thought he was a regular kid until he turned around. I remember yelling out to my mom to turn it off because I was utterly terrified. lol

I was more afraid of the faceless "telephone repairmen" walking through the wall.
