Different versions?

In the main page, its written:

Runtime:
Argentina:148 min (cut version) / France:159 min / Spain:159 min / USA:153 min (cut version)

What are the differences between the versions? Mainly between the US and the French? Did the longer version touch on Eliane's motherless-ness and her being jilted by her fiance? Cos I read the below and don't remember they were mentioned at all in the film:

From http://www.ejumpcut.org/archive/onlinessays/JC41folder/LoverReturnIndo chine.html

Eliane's love life has been unsuccessful. A former fiancé left her to return to France and pretended a suicide. Eliane, ignorant of this incident, has mourned her fiancé for years and taken a few lovers.

Eliane is herself motherless since her mother died while giving birth to her.

Anyone?

I have the European version. There's no English subtitle, so I downloaded an English sub file and add it to the dvd.

What I found out is, there's a part where Lili's father sees Jean Baptiste, and offered him money to stay away from Lili.

This part happened before the gambling scene, where Lili came to see JB. She said she looked for him everywhere, and that she needs him. He ends it by saying he doesn't have time for her.

That part is not on the DVD. And a small scene, where someone says there's some disease killing people up North.

That's odd. I got my copy from the UK and that scene is included.

Are you saying that real life isn't like the movies?
