Lesbian undertones?

Is it just me or does the movie have some kind of lesbian undertones/subtext. We see in the tango scene Eliane and Camile dancing very sexually with each other, and if I'm not mistaken (because my French is nearly non-existent) Eliane tells Camile that she would like to dance with her in a chalet.

So, were there lesbian undertones or not in your opinion, and if there was, why do you think Regis Wargnier included it? To pander to the male gaze?

Are you saying that real life isn't like the movies?!

Ah, it's just you. Having known a few lesbians in my life time I think I can safely say you're imagining it.
