Camille's conversion

I didn't get the impression that Camille gave much of a toss for her country - she was driven by lust not revolution. She ignored her countries traditions to go her own way, chasing a man who barely knew her - in fact - he didn't know her at all. She didn't make that journey for any other reason so why the big legend. She only got patriotic after she was put in jail - and how she escaped execution for murdering somebody is a mystery to me. Why would the "communists" kill Jean-Baptiste? He was supposed to be a big hero, a part of the legend. And why would they put a heavily pregnant female into a theatre production where she would draw attention to herself and the troupe.
Finally, how did she get of prison and become a communist vip.
She certainly didn't care about her child. I felt little sympathy for any of them - they were not nice people.

She had a frail psychology, and was in essence a school-girl who got swept up in a romantic fantasy. It's why she thought she had been saved by the handsome French officer, when in reality a dead man had merely fallen on her. She has starry eyed ideas of everything, which is why she's the weak character that she is.
