I just watched this on youtube. The epilogue said that Iowa laws changed due to this case. Google searches did not reveal details. I'm curious, how did foster care, parental rights, or children's rights change?

well to be honest I don't think they had things like DCFS back then or other things for children law, let alone ever had one. Most likely that was a bill for the mom and the kids just got lucky without her paying it.
shareActually it’s been around since 1964. So the law changing wasn’t that. I know without a doubt it was around in the late 70s and early 80s. My aunt was in an abusive marriage when DCFS came around to the protect the kids, not her. I also have family who were foster parents back then too. Social workers were around their home a number of times.
