Very Funny for a Serious Movie

This movie doesn't always make the "best of Woody Allen" lists -- it was hard to watch when it first came out, given the timing with the real-life Woody-Mia break-up and the uncomfortable resonances the movie had due to the scandal of Woody's involvement with Mia's daughter.

But as others have noted, if you can give it a chance, this is a very insightful movie about friendships and marriages.

But it is also very, very funny -- particularly the Judy Davis story line and its surrounding cast of characters. She's extremely funny on her first date post-separation from her husband. She's extremely funny in how cutting she is to Liam Neeson's character. And the aerobics instructor/horoscope girlfriend of her estranged husband is one of the funniest characters ever in a Woody Allen movie. The whole ensemble of actors in this part of the movie do a great job (Juliette Lewis, Woody, and Mia are much less compelling, but do a good job overall).

It's one of my favorite Woody Allen movies.
