It is absolutely unfathomable to me that Marisa Tomei beat out Judy Davis for Best Supporting Actress, not to mention Miranda Richardson, Joan Plowright and Vaneesa Regarve. That's so typical.
Regarding Marisa Tomei, I think she's a fine actress and she was very good in "My Cousin Vinnie," but Judy was far superior in "Husbands and Wives." I suspect that the "serious" vote was split among Judy, Miranda Richardson, Joan Plowright and Vanessa Redgrave, which gave Marisa the advantage. There was a rumor that Jack Palance read the wrong name when he presented the award, but that's not true.
Hmmm ... maybe. Was it several months ago? Oh yes, it's all coming back to me now. Damn that short-term memory loss!
I think I told you I saw Jimmy Webb in San Francisco, and it was an excellent show. Afterward, I got him to autograph my CD. He's one of our finest songwriters. Sorry you weren't able to see him. He puts on a great show, and he's very humble.
If it was typical it wouldn't be remarked upon so much. But when I think about it, I don't see anything in Davis's performance that makes it especially noteworthy. Any of dozens of actresses could have played it as well/better.
