this movie is supposed to be funny?

You know, I don't find this stuff amusing anymore...

No. It's a drama. He's made a few of them and they're pretty great. What made you think it was supposed to be a comedy? Just because it's a Woody Allen movie?

It is funny in a caustic, blistering, painfully true way. It is not funny like your average lame Hollywood comedy. The revealing behavior of the characters is in itself very amusing.

But it is a drama firstly. But certainly more humor is included than in "Interiors", "Another Woman" or the "A" story of "Crimes".

The "early", more-jokey Woody does make an early appearance with his noting of his student's story about "Oral Sex in the Age of Deconstruction", lol.

Well said, Thatsweetbird.

Some of the best comedies of all times won't elicit a single LOL from you.
(But you won't forget their wit either.)

This one did have its hilarious moments, though.
It was a perfect combination of drama/comedy; it was life-like in that respect.

I love it.

If you don't like Woody's sense of humour, you won't find this funny either. I think it is brilliant! And very funny too.

If you men only knew

I think its funny in the same sense Pride and Prejudice is funny. People aren't knocking each other over and telling bathroom jokes but it has little quirks in its dialogue. It's no Bananas or even Manhattan but it has it's moments.

I once loved a woman, a child I'm told. I give her my heart but she wanted my soul.

It's one of the funniest films I've ever seen - I think it's absolutely hilarious, and extremely poignant. The acting is phenomenal!

If it is, I missed it. I suspect those who find it funny are confused. They think Allen is always trying to be funny. There are a couple of humorous moments, but for the most part this is a melodrama.

I did enjoy this film very much, but there was only a couple moments in the film in which I found funny. I wasn't laughing constantly as I was in say Manhattan or Deconstructing Harry.

this film seemed much less direct in it's humor, still top notch Allen though.

I think this film is one of Allen's funniest in part because it lacks one-liners. The laughs all come from character. Farrow's response when she finds out that Judy Davis got a date with Neeson without her assistance, Judy Davis fleeing the meeting with her husbands new wife, Davis repeatedly asking to use her date's phone, etc. are pretty damn funny.
