Steve Martin's Last Good Movie, IMHO

Too bad. Wow, he was in some stinkers after that, starting with his borrrring! L.A. Story. He lost his mojo or good judgement.

What about Bowfinger (1999)? I think that one is his very best.

reply

Touche! However, he lost his superstardom. Happens to most actors at some point.

reply

@Babettegillette, Steve's made a career out of stinkers.

reply

Yeah, okay, no classic for the ages by Martin. :>)

I think this and Bowfinger are among his best, and personally, I liked LA Story. I didn't love it, but I liked it. Instead of 'The Out of Towners' though, I would have preferred a sequel to this. How awesome would that have been?

I definitely think this and Bowfinger are extremely underrated. Bowfinger he wrote and directed, I think. So it's probably my favourite of his.

I completely agree. I don't know what happened to him; whether he forgot how to pick a decent script, or he just doesn't care much anymore. Maybe it's just that his focus isn't on acting anymore, so he doesn't try very hard.

Planes Trains Automobiles - also great.

reply

I'm sorry but Bringing Down the House was a good movie.

Also came out five years before Housesitter...
