Beck was a Slut

I could not stand her character played flawlessly by the lovely Dana Delaney. Remember the scene in the bedroom where she says to Newton that she can see how Gwen might sleep with her ex and he should be more understanding... all while grabbing the tall bed post simulating sex. She didn't want Newton until Gwen came along. I could just slap her for that sinister smile toward the end at the dinner party when Gwen throws everything off the fireplace mantle and walks out.

I'm with you, I can't stand her character in this. No redeeming qualities at all. Even her outfits annoy the hell out of me.

Not so much slut as a grass-is-always-greener bΒ‘tch sort of person. She only wanted what she couldn't have. In the beginning she had Newton + gorgeous house offered on a platter and turned him down. He's married to Gwen and suddenly he's attractive to her. When the marriage goes south and Becky can have him, she hits the brakes again while snogging him in the fireplace. Then when Gwen walks out of the party and Becky asks Newton to confirm that none of it was real, she gets a totally smug look on her face - he is running after Gwen, but Becky is so sure that she can take him away from Gwen with a snap of her perfectly manicured fingers. It makes her comeuppance that much more delicious. Delaney played her perfectly, the character that Newton places on a pedestal and the audience ends up despising.

When Becky has the chance to sleep with Davis, she turns him down because he is married (she thinks). Gwen sleeps with Davis after a 15-minute walk around the block. Who's the slut?

"You didn't come into this life just to sit around on a dugout bench, did ya?"

spoiler, i like both actresses newton (steve martin) is choosing between in this, but becky comes off as so off putting, snobbish, chilly and dry, only gives him the time of day once he reaches success, while gwen is nutty, charming and fun, i tell you even if gwen treated him like crap i would rather he ended up with her, it was such a relief when he gets wise at the last second and ends up with gwen at the end. it seems this movie is a bit of a chick flick but also entertaining for fellas, not one of those usual awful romantic comedies, one of my favorite bits is when he gets a flashback as he sees gwen's "parent" is digging through the garbage. this is the only time i've heard the name stewie outside of "family guy". a good idea brought up on this board, about the suggestion of a sequel to this, that would indeed have been way cooler than martin's and hawn's reunion in "the out-of-towners" which was just like any other corny modern comedy, about this being martin's last good movie, it seems a lot of 1980's comedy stars pretty much faded/disappeared except for bill murray. the translated title i know this by is way funnier, translates sort of the freeloader, i can't believe how hot goldie hawn is in this movie, i watched her movies when i was a kid and didn't realise at the time what a complete knockout she is, at the end when she fell out of the buss 🚍 i thought it was set up for her to crash on the sidewalk.
