no, because the escape is just a mcguffin and out of character, considering their goofiness.

Mcguffin? Explain.

it's insignificant for the plot how they escaped. all that matters is that the characters are in the movie again as kevin's nemesis.

It has very little to do with the storyline. The whole point of the movie is to show that Kevin can fend for himself while being on his own.
