You have to understand that this was back in the 70s and 80s or maybe a portrayal of that. I mean the movie did not allow for us to see if they were in the era of videogames and cell phones. So if this is taken into consideration, all there was were wooden toys and board games.

People in the past did way more things outdoors than children of today. They had to find fun ways to deal with boredom than kids of today. Less distractions with mindless videogames, t.v., and computer games.

THERE IS NOTHING TO FEAR. COLLEGE FOOTBALL IS HERE!!!

I noticed this as well when I watched it recently. It didn't seem to be so much a toy store as much as it seemed to be a Christmas decoration emporium. We did see the two playhouses that Harry and Marv were hiding in, and Kevin got his monster goop somewhere, but otherwise it was a bunch of Christmas baubles and tchotchkes.

Can't imagine many kids had Christmas villages or nutcrackers on their Christmas lists in 1992, lol.

I always wanted a nutcracker when I was a kid. Still haven't gotten one.

I recall seeing the movie at the theater when I was a kid and saying "I don't want anything at that toy store", nothing looked modern for the time and had no toys that were popular at the time of the film's release.

reply

I was always thought the reason was copyright issues with the toy brand names which could explain all the generic looking toys...

reply

Yeah. Wish they could have paid off all the companies that produced Terminator 2 and Crash Dummies action figures. Those would have been what I wanted at the time of the movie.

reply

Watched this on Disney Plus, and yep I've thought that since seeing it for the first time...it had "toys" that kids might've liked in the 40s and 50s, but not early 90s when this came out.

reply

I think it makes the story more timeless.

THAT OLD TIME NOSTALGIA...I FEEL YOU...FEATURING NINJA TURTLES AND POLLY POCKET WOULD SEVERELY CHEAPEN THE WONDER OF THE SCENES AT THE TOY STORE.

reply

Well now that you mention it, I do like me some ninja turtles. Don’t you?
