It's never revealed. But yes he has to have an amazing job! The neighborhood the real house is in is in one of the richest areas of Chicago.

It never really occurred to me what his dad or possibly both of his parents did for a living. At the very most, I figured they were just your typical upper middle class suburban family.

One article suggested that Peter's brother Rob (Uncle Rob to Kevin) was the wealthy one in the family and paid for the trip. They even quoted the conversation between Kevin's mother and the fake cop played by Joe Pesci:

"No, my husband's brother transferred to Paris last summer and both of his kids are still going to school here and I guess he missed the whole family. He's giving us all this trip to Paris for the holidays so we can be together."

After 28 years, I can honestly say I never gave it a single thought because I was too busy focusing on Joe Pesci's character smiling at Kevin and him being weary of the guy.

As for the sequel, I have no clue. Either Uncle Rob paid for it again or the McCallisters saved enough for a trip within the U.S.

Whatever the case, I think it's a hoot, especially the theory about Peter being in the mob.

You know what as far as I know of, and aware of and I have seen the two movies it is not known or ever mentioned of what Peter did for a living. So your guess is as good as my guess, if not better then my guess.

The movies don't state it but the novelization for the first movie states than Peter is a successful businessman and Kate is a fashion designer, hence the reason for the mannequins around the house in the first movie.
