How Hoffa Could Have Lived To Return To The Union

Something occurred to me a while back as regards the intense feud that Jimmy Hoffa had with Bobby Kennedy. I can't help but wonder what would have happened if RFK had not been assassinated; he would likely have become President of the United States, he would have done a good bit towards ending the Vietnam war, and he would likely have not agreed to commute Hoffas' prison sentence; all of this together tells me that Jimmy Hoffa might have lived to see 1980 when he could have returned to union activities to " get the union back ".

I agree, he had great potential to do it.

While you post an interesting theroy, I wonder if more jail time would have allowed Jimmy to emerge later and jump right back into the driver's seat of the Teamsters.

After all, time had marched forward and the powerful leader was "on ice" behind prison walls. He couldn't keep up his leadership with "dah boys" on the outside. As you know from the movie, Fitz went his own way and didn't bother seeing Jimmy in prison. Also, Jimmy was sprung with only a few months left on his sentence, which made the deal between Fitz and Charles Colson really burn up Jimmy...he coulda been out on his own with no strings attached.

But powerful enemies didn't want that to happen, did they?

Only a few months left until a possible parole date, not until his sentence was finished. Not the same thing. His sentence was up in 1980.
