How many of you wanted to smack that b***h Marlene?

Peyton was not alone when it came to being a cold b***h. Marlene gives her competition. I just couldn't stand watching in the movie either. I wanted to punch Peyton for her hatred of tomboys and autistic people, but the way Marlene acts in the movie makes me think she also comes from a family filled with bigots. It's like this girl, along with Peyton, have family that believed in the ideas of Jim Crow. But that's besides the point. I felt the desire to go into a teleportal and smack Marlene in the face.

reply

I think you mean Uncle Toms, not tomboys.

But Marlene was just a cliche` character -- she was the typical best friend of the protagonist in these kinds of movies -- the best friend is always bitchy, sarcastic, mouthy.

reply

No, tomboys. Women who hang out with guys and act like them, sometimes they're even gay themselves hence making them one of the guys. Another important thing, loving guy stuff.

reply

I know what a tomboy is, but who was a tomboy in this movie?

reply

Well there wasn't, but I get that impression that they do hate them.

Anyways, the way Peyton tried to make life hell for Claire and her daughter and for the father (forgot his name) is bad enough.

Marlene isn't better at all.

reply

Well there wasn't, but I get that impression that they do hate them.

Can someone tell me how you can have a dialogue with someone who thinks like this?

Typical "Friends"-watching racist Scot. If you don't like people like, why don't you and your Scottish/Jewish/Danish whateverthehellsheis wife go back to Scotland or Denmark or Israel, you know "Friends" land and leave us good Americans alone and kiss my Puerto Rican ass, bro? This is America, we don't need you uptight bastards. This ain't a Victorian wonderland.

Wow! Where in hell did that rambling, nonsensical, incoherent rant come from? That's a rhetorical question that doesn't require an answer from you. Please don't respond, and please put me on ignore. Thank you.

reply

Marlene was a nasty b8tch. She couldn't say a polite "thank you" to her employee when he handed her the file? It was clear that she thought she was just "too good" for anyone she decided was "beneath" her.

I almost worked for someone like her, but walked out. The temp agency that sent me got upset (they said they couldn't understand why NOBODY they sent stayed, others didn't even last a week). I guess it was just too hard for them to figure out.

[deleted]

I also worked with a bitch like Marlene. She was the boss' daughter.

reply

LMAO
She reminds me of every "Friends"-watching anti-"Seinfeld" anti-"bro" bitch or person I've ever known hahahahaah

reply

I guess the point that Marlene is "comic relief" eludes you, and everyone else here who takes her SO seriously.

reply

I didn't see anything "comic" about her treating her employee like dirt. I really never saw her do anything funny.

reply

Well, some people have no humor. Marlene is a hoot.

reply

Yes, loudmouthed bitches are hilarious, Eliot, always funny.

reply

I had a white paraprofessional who Marlene reminds me of. Her name was Angis Bowers (I think; Cioffi was only her surname by marriage). She was a stuck up "Friends"-watching "Seinfeld"-hating skank I just felt compelled to smack.

reply

A lot of people hate Seinfeld. My kind of people. Is the entire world supposed to love something, just because you do?

reply

Typical square.
Go watch "Friends" with your fellow lameos, bro.

reply

Personally, I never liked Seinfeld or Friends.

reply

Robert, go play in the backyard until you learn to talk to adults.

reply

Go smoke pot like the dumb loser you are

reply

LOL Never touched drugs, but you show your age.

reply

I'm not the one who resorts to name-calling. Not very mature now is it?

reply

Actually yeah, you called someone a square and a lame-as*, then you called me a dumb loser.

reply

Wasn't to you first of all, second of all I only called you a dumb loser after you insulted me first. Provocation makes the difference between being an *beep* and just responding.

reply

The other person you insulted didn't provoke you at all, so if you're going to complain about namecalling, well, doesn't fly.

reply

Yes, Marlene was a loudmouthed jerk. In fact, how..HOW did she and Claire even become friends? She was completely different from the friendly, humble Claire and was even her husband's serious ex. How does that work out?

reply

Maybe they were childhood friends? I don't think the movie ever mentioned how long they were friends.

reply

I've had friends that are total opposite of me and we get along. I actually liked the dynamic that even though Marlene was her husbands ex, they were still good friends and trusted each other. I know it was set up to be a way to cause a rift.

reply

I would always prefer an evening with someone fun like Marlene over a snooze-fest like a chat with Claire. Besides, Marlene is the smart, loyal and caring friend that tries to save Claires ass whilst risking letting down her clients.

reply

And Julianne Moore looked really hot back then (she still looks good today, but circa 1992 with that shoulder-length red hair she looked gorgeous). Marlene was a good friend, but certainly not the type of person you'd want to make an enemy of.

reply

Or leave alone with your husband....

~ I hardly looked at his face. His knees were what I wished to see. ~

reply

Absolutely agreed. I'd have smacked Marlene, but not in the face. Yes, she was a bi#ch, but she also seemed bat sh#t crazy, which means she'd be incredible in bed. 

Julianne Moore looked hot back then. She had a smoking little body, and that character let her show off those gorgeous legs every chance she got.

Both Peyton and Marlene really enjoyed taking turns, cutting Michael's balls off. Claire had no choice - Michael could not protect his family, and "when push came to shove" - he somehow broke both legs falling 2 feet from a stair, and was completely useless in saving his family.

reply

Please answer my newest question :)

about Sciorra saying "bro" in any of her movies :)

I hope it's true :)

reply

I am DYING from laughter @ this post.
???? He did somehow fall and break both his legs, didnt he!!?? I am almost crying. He fell from no where.

reply

He fell off the stairs you twits, onto a hard concrete floor, and broke one leg. Yet the wife saving her kids is castrating him? Idiot comment.

reply

Funny, I shattered my femur into six pieces slipping off the bottom stair. You've been watching too many Hollywood action films where heroes jump twenty feet to the ground, get up and run off. The human body can be grievously injured by a fall that doesn't appear all that serious.

You think that's not possible, ass hole? People also drown in six inches of water.

reply

"Your wearing Claire's perfume" Marlene isn't aware of the scheme by Christian Dior to turn a profit and sell Poison to more than one woman.

reply

LMAO!

reply

shes rude and despicable. im glad she gets it.

"I have never seen a vision, nor learned a secret, that would damn or save my soul"!

reply

I can't actually believe the audacity of people here. Marlene was great! She saw right through Peyton when nobody else did. That's why she had to go. She wised up to her and needed to be out of the way so nobody else would realise why she was the nanny.

reply

That came later. Right from the beginning, she was rude. And she treated her employees like crap.
