Is that an effective fighting maneuver?

At the end when Tommy fights Jimmy, and Jimmy keeps dropping his head and hurting Tommy's hand, could that work in a real fight? I've never seen sold as a self-defense technique anywhere, but it seems logical. It seems it'd be more effective if someone was putting all their weight behind a punch, just drop your head and break their hand.

I got the impression it only worked in this case because they weren't wearing gloves.... not sure though....

I think it's the same thing as hitting a wooden board with your barefist or in gloves. If your bare fist hasn't built up strength hitting wood it would hurt a lot more than hitting it with a glove on.

Just drivin aroundddd, in Jon Voight's carrrr.

They made a point that the forehead was the hardest spot on the body to hit with a barefist. There is only skin between the skull and the fist, no like a body punch where you're hitting a lot of flesh.

I have accidentally punched people in the head with a bare fist. It hurts. I imagine if you are quick enough to pull the movie off, it would be a very effective defensive maneuver.

Yeah, you couldn't win the fight using that alone. But if you snuck one or two in, you could break the other guy's hand. Once his hand is broken, you could wail on his face.

I think it works against a jab punch, but if you keep ducking your head your opponent could easily set up a nasty uppercut, which is exactly what happens to Horn.
