Who was the First Choice to star?

Emilio was just wrong for this movie. You could never buy him in a role that seemed written for a big action star like Arnold, Stallone, or even Van Damme. Anyone know who was initally considered for the film?

I think this was built as Emilio's attempt to break out of Brat-pack esc films and establish himself as an action star, like his brother did in Platoon and Navy Seals. After the success of quirkey sci-fi Repo Man, i think the producers though he'd pull it off well. Shame.
I can certainly think of people who would have been better suited to the role, but reakon Emilio was always the first choice. Wonder how much he got paid for this?

Alternative leads:
Kurt Russel
James Spader?
Val Kilmer
Dennis Quade
Jeff Goldbloom?

Probably all would have done better since all over 5'5"

It says on Emilio's bio that he is indeed over 5'5". He is 5'7". Sorry for being a smart a**.

That might be true, but he still looks noticeably shorter than the average action hero.

Tom Cruise?? ;-)

Watching this as we speak and my god was he awful in it. I actually think Mick Jagger was the better actor of the two.
