Eric Roberts plays a great jerk

Seriously, many movies that he is in, he is a real a-hole. But he does a great job at it. Where are you, Eric? We want to see you make a comeback.

Yea, he was also good in Heaven's Prisoners as Bubba Rocque. He blew my mind in that. He IS working though; he is one of the most prolific actors working today. I think that's part of the problem, he has no discernment.

He is a jerk in this movie, but what we DON'T see is what they are BEFORE she starts scheming. He says it in the restaurant, "You need it, you need it to get off". Now, what we don't know is what is he referring to. He could be just being an ass, or he could know something we don't. We have no idea who she used to be, or still is when she's not play-acting.

Eric does actually show some tenderness from time to time. I wonder how many of us would stand up under the closest scrutiny if the cameras were turned on our long-time marriages? Certainly, he is a very, very dangerous and scummy dude, but we don't know what she was like before she started her scheme (as I said before).

Anyway, I'd like to see him in something really good, but I don't think that is going to happen, as he seems to be determined to keep himself on the "d" list in Hollywood. He has the chops, but Hollywood is about way more than just talent, as we are all VERY well aware.

That's a great point, one I never considered. I never thought about what kind of relationship she and Jimmy had. I mean, she wasn't playing him in any way. She was downright nasty to him. He knew all her secrets, her illness, the whole shebang. No mystery there.

Anyone else noticed the underwater shot, a cool Days of Heaven (w/ Richard Gere too) reminiscence, when his character got killed? So cool!

A good study of repressed violence in this film.🐭
