Slow paced average noir

I remember when I was a kid and the picture of gere and basinger lip locking was very enticing to me. Many times I was curious to see what could be so special about this movie. Fast forward 14 years and I finally managed to get round to seeing it. Just recently I purchased the dvd and unfortunately the experience was quiet lame. Despite being consciously aware of the low rating I took the risk to see it. Disappointing is the word I use. Slow moving melodrama which seemed very predictable. A lot of Hitchcock references. For a thriller the movie sure had a lot of flaws as well as situations that didn't make sense. I would assume that 'Basic Instinct' took away it's thunder. Even Kim Basinger couldn't seem interested in her role.
