Honour Offer

"We joined the Marines because we wanted to live our lives by a certain code, and we found it in the Corps. Now you're asking us to sign a piece of paper that says we have no honor. You're asking us to say we're not Marines. If a court decides that what we did was wrong, then I'll accept whatever punishment they give. But I believe I was right sir, I believe I did my job, and I will not dishonor myself, my unit, or the Corps so I can go home in six months... Sir."

*beep* that macho *beep* you're not a Klingon.

*beep* your code, action is what matters. You killed an innocent, even unarmed man. That's dishonoured you already. That you killed him through following orders doesn't change that, it just means the people who gave you the orders have dishonoured themselves in the same way. Even if they just said "hurt him" and not "kill him". And there's nothing you can do that will take either of those dishonours away. So *beep* "Unit, Corps, God, Country". That's got nothing to do with why you deserve a full trial. The case needs to go to trial so the people who gave you the orders, who have already dishonoured themselves and are responsible for you having already dishonoured yourself, can face justice. That's what matters. Right and wrong. Not some macho Ice Warrior code of honour *beep*
