I think he is good choice. Can't wait who will play Cathy? do you think it will be some well known actress?

reply

Just read on the Daliy Mail wqebsite that Sinnea Miller is in talks for cathy,
that casting choice is even worse than natlie portman

reply

I, personally, think Sienna is a better choice than Portman. Her looks will have to be altered, but that's easily remedied. Sienna is actually a good actress, unfortunately, her personal life often overshines this fact. Plus i think she has a rawness about her that suits Cathy that Portam didn't posses.

However, Nat did look more like the Cathy i imagined than Sienna does. But i really would have wanted Rose Byrne, Emily Blunt or Hayley Atwell. But she's in very informal talks so who knows what'll happen. Sienna's supposed to be great in The Edge of Love though.

I always thought that Cathy should have a little bit inocent look. She was kind of lolita, selfish, manipulative but childish. Natalie had this inocent look but not that intensity( but I think under good direction she could be good Cathy).Sienna looks more calculative, matured.I have never seen her to play, so I can't judge her acting skills. But after all, I would rather see Natalie or Kiera as Cathy than her.I don't know.

I agree shes a better actress then Natlie Portman

But there 5 or 6 names I hoped John Maybury would consider before talking to some one famed for being in the spot light. To me sienna Miller is like every rich man daughter I would much rather see her play Isabella spolt, rich and blond. I dont think she has that mytruum that in my mind cathy has, hopfully he considering her for the role of Cathy Junior I role which I can see her playing much better.

reply

I agree with that completely.

I cannot see Sienna Miller as Cathy, either. I'm not saying she's a bad actress, and maybe her looks could be altered, but to me she seems too "modern" (maybe it's just her image?)

I think Emily Blunt could be good.

I like the idea of Emily Blunt playing Cathy.
On the other hand I just read on the Wuthering Heights (2010) board that according to the screenwriter "the new adaptation plans to steer away from the stuffy costume format". I really don't like the sound of that. Does anyone have more info on this?

reply

They always say stuff like that. It just means that it won't be like a classic BBC adapatation when it looks like it's performed on a stage (i'm talking way back here, not their recent productions).

reply

*sigh of relief* thanks, silcock.
I began to worry that they plan to set the story in an LA high school, lol, or something like that.

reply

Can't see Portman in the role. She's a good actress but didn't do much to enhance Anne Boleyn's cause now did she? I always think of her as a Long Island girl, which she *was*. Miller might work because, in a way, she *is* headstrong, laughing, loving...Cathy.

reply

Sienna is a good actress but I agree with the post that says she's 'mature' because that is exactly the word that comes to mind whe I look at her. On the other hand, Portman looks the part but struggled with the part of Anne Boleyn coming over vindictive but lacking in passion and stubborness, which are the trademarks of Catherine. Maybe, it was the script of TOBG but that was really a nail in the coffin for her shot at Catherine's character. Personally, I woud LOVE Romola Garai to be Catherine - because when I watched 'the incredible journey of mary bryant' she was absolutley terrific! Mary being incredibly like Catherine Earnshaw - was passionate, stubborn, childish, and at times manipulative and Romola played her incredibly well. You have to see it to know what I'm talkiing about. If Michael Fassbender has been cast, then it would be wise to cast Romola too, seen as, they've worked together before and have got a VERY believable chemistery.

reply

Abbie Cornish is Cathy.

reply

That is so weird! Romola replaced Abbie when she pulled out of 'Atonement.' I didn't know that they'd cast Cathy, where did you find out from?

reply

It's all over the internet. I read it in the Daily newspaper orginally though. Here's a link:
