what would be a good song to exemplify this book?

I'm using this book for a book report and we have to pick a song to go along with the book we've chosen. I'm kind of drawing a blank for this one.

Any ideas?

Hmmm interesting idea.

How about:
"Someone Else's Story" from Chess - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j1uZbq5YzGw

or another that could go with the eternal and all consuming love aspect of Cathy and Heathcliffe

"My Love is Like A Red Red Rose" by Rabbie Burns - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P4J-HtA3N0w
or

Hope this helps and that your book report goes well!

how about 'for blue skies' by strays dont sleep

Just because i live in London does not mean i walk around with a bowler hat and an umbrella

Many different versions of this folk ballad over the last few hundred years but one of the best I know is of Joan Baez singing it - the title is "Barbara Allen."

A great second is this from Art Garfunkel

Even though the song begins with the tale of the dying man, it shows how the fickleness of Barbara Allen destroys both their lives.

I hope you let me know what you think - good luck! Glad you like WH (it's my favorite)

See, I could be exceedingly unhelpful and suggest 'Wuthering Heights' by Kate Bush... (but I won't)

Dante's Prayer by Loreena McKennitt? (ignore the LotR Fanvid, sorry!) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VfLYjV4noC0

It has a tragic, ghostly element to it which I think fits in pretty well.

Oh, Lady Margaret ~ you are naive

I'd say Different Stars by a band called Trespassers William. Look up the lyrics, they fit to the theme...

there's always Kate Bush's song "Wuthering Heights"....there are two different versions, one her voice is REALLY high, the other isn't so much...the first is on "The Kick Inside", and the alternate vocal is on "The Whole Story". Hope this helps!

For me, most of Enya's songs bring back the atmosphere, not the words, the music.

reply

yeah i definitely get that feeling from enya. if you like enya you might like loreena mckennit....she's different than enya, her music is has quite a bit of middle eastern sounding stuff, but very celtic and stuff. it's interesting and hard to describe!

reply

Oh, that sounds really cool, I make sure to check her music out. I love middle eastern music too so I can imagine that it must sound wonderful. Thanks.

Apart from the completely obvious Wuthering Heights by Kate Bush, I would opt for M83 - Don't Save Us From the Flames. It's about a ghost calling the girls name Tina after dying which could mirror the ghost of Cathy. It's so hauntingly beautiful.

I realise you have probably handed in your report by now but yeah...

A song I associate strongly with the book is 'Country' by Paul Weller: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u0zlkwaixcE

- I think the lyrics match so well :)

I know a place not far from here
Where lifes sweet perfume fills the air
And if you want I'll take you there
If you want I'll take you there

Into the light out of the dark
Where only love can heal your heart
And if you want I'll make a start
If you want I'll make a start

This place I say - half hour away
Is that so far to go - so near
And further on we'll find the time
And lose the discontent we feel - that we feel

I feel the time we've yet to reach
Is not yet within our own belief
But I feel sure that time'll come
If it goes on at all, said - if it goes on at all, whoa - if it goes on at all,
hey - it goes on and on and on and on

I know a place not far from here
Where fresh cut grass will fill your hair
And if you want we'll lay a while there
If you want we'll lay a while there
If you want we'll lay a while there.
