It's been a while, but I think he says goodbye to Cathy's corpse before she's buried.
Maybe you are thinking of the '11 adaptation? Heathcliff has one moment alone with Cathy's corpse, and later digs her grave and tries to break open the coffin, but is interrupted by Nelly.
The has always been my favourite version of this wonderful novel. I have it on DVD.
