EVERYBODY NEEDS TO READ THIS

Okay, get yourself over to Bronteblog.com apparently a new feature fim of Wuthering heights is due to begin filming this autumn, the writer is Olivia Hetreed (Girl with a Pearl Earing) and the director is John Maybury. No one word on Heathcliff yet but it says Kiera Knightly and Lindsay Lohan are on a very long list of Cathy possibilities. Kiera i could deal with she's really proved herself as an actress over the last few years. Lindsay, sorry, NO.NIGHTMARE CASTING. I'd be forced to boycot the fim. But we'll see what happens they're looking to cast young which pleases me. I know my opinion won't do any good but i leave with these words: Cast Ameila Warner as Cathy and Henry Cavill as Heathcliff.PLEASE.

reply

No thanks to both.

reply

How about Christian Bale as adult Heathcliffe?

He's good.

It'll probably end up being Keira Knightley as Cathy.

I can live with that, I just want a good Heathcliffe.

AVADA KEDAVRA!!!

reply

yea, he would be a good heathcliff

^^-mate, feed, kill, repeat^^

reply

I love and adore Christian, but I just don't see how anyone could out-do Ralph. He was my perfect Heathcliff.

I think we need a more ethnic character play Heathcliff. I imagined him as slightly mediterranean/eastern European looking (that would correspond with his "gyspy" description. Although indian would make sense also, seeing as it was a colony of Britain at the time and the amount of trade that occured between the UK & Ireland.

reply

how about Clive Owen as Heathcliff ???

reply

Clive Owen... maybe... Christian Bale => ooohh YEAH!
But another sugestion: what about Benicio del toro??

reply

I have nothing against Kiera, but I think there is too much of her. I would like to see someone else, not another period drama with Kiera again.
Lindsay's reputation goes againts her, but I think there is something wild and childish in her, as well as in Cathy.
For Heathcliff- he is supposed to be gypsy, and in my opinion should be played by gypsy actor.

Lohan and Knightely both would be terrible Cathys. Haley Atwell should get the role.

Charlie Hunnam for Heathcliff but Henry Cavill isn't such a bad idea.

So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past

reply

Keira would be ok. Lohan, i agree is a NO NO, Haley Atwell would be excellent. Howver, my preferred Cathy is Felicity Jones. I love Charlie, but he would need some serious make up to look like Heathcliff, he looks more like Edgar to be honest. He is blonde.

Felicity Jones or Gemma Arerton as Carthy

Ed Stoppard as Heathcliff..Just finshed Hamlet on stage Dark features with polish roots.

Sam Riley/Toby Kersall as Harton
Emma Watson as her daughter
Hindley-Panny Consiance

reply

Gemma Areton is a good choice, my fav is Felicty Jones.

Was Ed Stoppard in The Pianist???? Hmmm, he would be okay, i'm not sur about him though, he seems a bit old next to Felicty or Gemma.

reply

Interesting choices, quite good! I can imagine all of these actors playing roles that you have suggested.

reply

Lindsay NONONO!!!! She would not pass, as she's too American in style, and not good enough actress.

Keira, NONONO!!! I don't like her at all. She's very in these days, but I don't think she has what she takes for Cathy.

Both Cathy and Heathcliff are very difficult to get right. There's so much intensity and viciousness in the characters, you have to bee a great actor to do it. And I think Timothy Dalton is the only one who's played Heath properly.

And I'm tired of seing fair, blue-eyed Heathcliffs. I want to see someone who could pass even slightly as a gypsy.

**********
They blew up Congress!!! HAHAHA!

reply

I agree both are a bit depth less

reply

Completely agree with you about the Heathcliff always being a pastey, blue-eyed English man. Really should be a "dark skinned gypsy" (a quote from the text!)

"Would you like to live with your soul in the grave?" Wuthering Heights

reply

Well, after seeing Ralph Fiennes in the role of Heathcliff, it's hard to imagine any1 else, but well myabe Hugh Jackman can do it..oh I don't know it's really hard, and No for both Keira and Lindsay..the last is soooooo not good to cast in any movie I believe :S let her stick to singin..and I don't think Christian Bale has anythin goin on that wud make him be a good heathcliff..

reply

Christian Bale... why? Because he is very intense and about looks it´s not difficult to imagine him as Heathcliff at all! I think he can be a good choice for the role. Not perfect, though.

reply

ralph fiennes and julliete were both great in their roles. i doubt anything can beat them. they both played excellently and they had great chemistry between them.

also fiennes didn't have very pale skin in there. anyhow, 'gypsies' have blue eyes too.

christian bale imo would be a good choice. he's a great actor too, and is often very intense- good as heathcliff.

i also don't think neither kier nor lindsay would be very good as cathy. maybe kate winslet.

reply

Kiera and Lindsey better than Binoche? I seriously hope one doesn't mean Lindsey Lohan who's among the worst actresses ever! Kiera is wooden and overrated. The girl can't act for squat and she really needs to start eating!

reply

i know who'd be the best - charlize theron. she's an incredible actress and would fit this role great. with darker hair and maybe contacts, she'd be ideal for that role.

reply

Charlize is a fine actress so I can accept that. However I haven't read the book nor seen the film so my opinion isn't exactly too valid. Nonetheless, I think anyone would be better than the likes of Knightley and Lohab.

reply

lol at ur last sentence. but u should watch this movie, it's really good!

reply

Is there a point discussing Keira nd Lilo??? Natalie Portman is Cathy, it's been confirmed.

reply

well, because theron would be better than portman!! how can they pick a female lead without having a male lead? the chemistry between those two is the most important in this story!

reply

I imagine they'll pick the Heathcliff that fits Portman's Cathy the most. I think Portman suits Cathy more than Theron would. I wanted Gemma Arterton or Felicity Jones, but i think Natalie will do a good job.

reply

I don't think Portman is right for the role. I only liked her in 'Garden State' and 'Cold Mountain'.

reply

[deleted]

Do you think Bill Paxton would be a good Heathcliff for Natalie Portman?

reply

[deleted]

lol, no, he'll be perfect for Portman. It will be like the new 'Big Love' franchise.

reply

He is more than 50 years old, he could be her father! people, Heathcliff died when he was 40, and is supposed to be in the same age as Cathy. please, stop cast young actresse with old mens.

As for Heathcliff, this role should be finnaly cast by some gypsy/ethnic actor and not again white, blue eyed british guy.I don't understand why people are more annoyed by the fact that Cathy will be played by american actress, but don't mind that Heathcliff, who is supposed to be gypsy boy (and it's big part of his identity)is played by white and british actor.

reply

Relax dude. That was a joke .

Yes, Ralph Fiennes is one of the best Heathcliffs ever, and this version of Wuthering Heights is my favorite. It will be hard to beat him. I don't wanna say that british actor can't do brilliant job.
Heathcliff suffered a lot because he looked different, but also because of his own character and his believe in ghosts, curses, his passion which is very common in culture of gypsy people. So I thought that someone coming from that culture could understand this role. Of course,it doesn't mean that people from other cultures not( as already mentioned Ralph Fiennes).
But because WH were remade a lot of times, the new version of WH should bring something new, what wasn't seen in other adaptation.Right know, I can't see any of present actors to play that role. So, I think, it would be interesting to look for some unknown talented actor, and why not to try someone from different backround.
It might bring some strange element to this movie, after all Heathcliff was stranger.

reply

i heard something about james mcavoy being the new heathcliff, anyone got any thoughts on this?? i think he could be good!!

i also heard rumours about johnny depp but i think he's far too pretty...

bygones!

reply

hmm.. don't know. actually i cant remember any movie with him... from the looks i wouldn't pick him - although i can sort of imagine him as heathcliff so who know's.. and he may be good with natalie portman..

is he a good actor?

reply

Natalie Portman isn't doing it anymore. Michael Fassbender is playing Heathcliff, yes, he's a good actor.

reply

oh, wow! Fassbender is playig heathcliff?? i think looks-wise he's good for the role.

how come portman isn't playing it anymore? is there someone new for that role?

reply

It clashed with other commitments apparently. No, there's no replacemenat as yet, but there's supposed to be one soon.

Am about to watch the Fiennes version on DVD this week...but no to Knightley and Lohan due to overexposure. Christian Bale would be a great choice.

reply

Thought bronteblog.com would be about, well, The Brontes. Just another place to purchase DVD's though.

reply

If this is true, I would absolutely HATE Lindsay Lohan to be cast as Cathy. If they cast her they would be absolutely ridiculous. Keira Knightley I don't know ... I like her and everything, I just don't know if I could see her as a Cathy...
