Miramax cut vs The Final Cut

Hi all,
I've put a new article comparing the 87-minute Miramax-edited version of Dust Devil to Richard Stanley's Final Cut. For those who have seen one but not the other and are interested, I hope you enjoy it. :)

Thanks for the interesting material. I've wanted to try something like this for years ever since the final cut was released. The thing is for me that the Fango article I read about DD combined with the Paramount VHS and then the Laser Paradise DVD all seemed to "melt" together in my mind after a few years but this article straightened things out for me about what was/wasn't cut from Stanley's edit.

It seems like Miramax was so crazed about pacing that they inadverdantly cut out little connective details which actually moved forward the plot, such as the bar discussion between Ben and William Hootkins in the bar where we see the pinball machine in the background get carried across to the segregated bar so that when Mark accidently shows up there and hears the same pinball machine he did on the phone he starts flipping out. I guess Mark's dialogue still conveys that little details but when you can actually see the pinball machine moved it works better. Also it's just a beautiful scene between Mokae and Hootkins. Cutting stuff like this made the film even more obscure.

I NEVER EVEN NOTICED THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!

Holy Christ! Now it makes sense... I never understood what that scene in the Black Bar was about. Not even when I watched The Final Cut on Subversive Cinema's new DVD.
