What's with the coat

During the course of the film the Dust devils coat is unadorned on the back, however during the scene when the devil conjures up the dust devil(also featured on the cover of the dvd) he appears to have bones wove into the back of the coat.

Any thoughts on what these bones represent and where they appear from?

i don't know what they represent, but if you watch the movie small details in his clothes change in each scene. i've noticed at least 5 such changes.

remember that the Dust Devil is a shapeshifter. the changes represent the fact that he is one foot in this world, the other in another. he is constantly shifting and in movement. as such so are his clothes.

The shaman says that there's power in fingers and if this is part of the films mythology then it folows that the bones of the animals have a power too... perhaps to 'smell-out' his prey?

reply

This was just my metaphorical interpretation when i saw the bones on his jacket.
But i immediately thought of the term "The Devils Backbone" and how the Dust Devil is described as gathering his powers (or fortitude) from the lives of others. Some Devils mythologically speaking have taken pride in the harvesting of humans who might be considered lost to "the light" and this is what seems to explain their motivation and personal constitutions, so to speak.
