reply

no but i went to a peer network site and d/l an hour and 40min version which i assume is the directors cut, why would you want a 23 minute shorter version..this probably is the best one, i have wanted to see this movie for years, i read about it in fangoria, as i write this im only 2 mins into the movie, the narrarator is still talking and i looked it up real quick on imdb to see if i had the best version and judging by your question i will assume i do...you can email me at [email protected] and i will tell you the site, i dont want to ruin a good thing for everyone else on this site i have..so email me with dustdevil in the headline and i will send you the links...peace

I picked up the 87 minute version on VHS, just for obsessive completeness sake, having bought the german DVD edition and the 5 disc boxed set... I've watched it once...

Still never tracked down the Demoniaca edition though

I already have the DVD with the Director's Cut (long version). And I have an old VHS with the 87 min.version with the sex scenes intact (not in the Director's cut, don't ask me why). Being the obsessive pain in the butt I am , I want to be able to choose what I watch and how I watch it, so I want both versions. I might be deemed a heretic but I prefer the rhythm and direct approach of the studio version, I find the third-world political/socioeconomical subtext and interminable voiceover narration in the director's cut really boring. It's supposed to be a movie about a demon looking for lost souls (being one himself),not "The Interpreter" on a low budget... I know,I know,I'll burn in hell for this! Sorry,I always speak my mind. :)

Actually the whole point of the political stuff that features in the background of the movie was to help us understand why the hitcher came to that place. Because it's filled with manmade hatred, despair and regret. A perfect place to hunt unnoticed for lost souls.

As for the narration... Well, the script and dialogues certainly could have been better.

Almost four years later, the 87 minute version can be found on an Echo Bridge Home Entertainment dvd; 15-Film Horror Pack. Got it for 5 bucks at Walmart.
