Felix Barbosa's gay buddy

What was up with the feminine, gay looking dude who hanged around with Barbosa? What was his relationship with the drug dealer and why did he so quickly and easily join sides with Fishbourne and Goldbloom, especially considering they were responsible for killing Felix.

He was probably with Barbosa because he's a loyal friend, or as a voice of reason. Not really because he too is a drug lord, or dealer.

As to why he switched so fast, it's probably because Stevens/Hull knew he was just with Barbosa as a friend and did nothing illegal. Plus, Gopher's a nice guy, and since he knows his way around the crime biz with his run with Barbosa, he could give Russel Stevens a hand.

His relationship with Felix wasn't really made clear for me, but what I got is that he and Felix might have possibly been childhood friends and he has just sort of glommed on to Felix because the guy is rich, or he's an addict and being friends with Felix means access to all the drugs he wants.

reply

I think it might be a little more risque than just that they are childhood friends. In the hot hands scene, Gopher tells Barbosa to stop and Barbosa says something along the lines of "Anything for you on your birthday." That's something intimate couples say, not childhood friends. Makes you wonder if the tough guy act by Barbosa was meant to disguise something else.....

I think this aspect of the film is a nice touch; it creates confusion and challenges perceived notions of crime bosses and the like.

If Gopher was so gay, then why did they have that fine ass "nun-stripper" dancing onstage while they ate?

If that was a gay man's birthday party, wouldn't they have had a Chippendales' dude up there or something?

That nun was getting down and dirty up there on that stage. She had some nice legs on her, too.

She was hot. Wonder who the actress is. I can't find her credit.

I think Gopher was an accountant or something....

he served in some non violent function for Felix....banker or something

Gopher... he's an errand boy, hence the nickname. That's what a Gopher does.

Every person that served can be called a veteran, but not every veteran can be called a Marine.

If he was closeted, then he would have a female stripper so he would appear straight. Many closteed gay men marry a woman they don't even love to appear straight. That was really big in the 50's.
