Is there no interview where Isabella Rossellini talks about her role?
Also, is the character inspired by Marchesa Luisa Casati and Theda Bara? Because I think so, so much similarities...
The original screenplay (available on this forum) hints at a few extra things, like Lisle is a black witch who is much older than 71 years old (like several hundred years or more) and was responsible for the deaths of several notable people in history who refused to join her and her "cause". This version of Lisle is less ambiguous and more obviously evil.
