But one flaw

This movie is so close to being perfect... Imagine how strong and convincing it would have been if they'd just used the dialect of Aalst (and Ghent for Pas's character). To this day, Aalst has one of the most recognisable dialects in Flanders. Yet in this film everyone speaks "proper Dutch".
Watch a Ken Loach movie, and you'll have to agree that it helps set the atmosphere and adds to the authenticity and credibility.

That's a fact but it also happens in a lot of other movies/series. Watch 'Flikken' for example, it is set in Ghent but nobody speaks with a Ghent accent.

I think many people would have difficulties understanding the movie, and many people also dislike subtitles on a movie in their own native language. Although I agree with you that dialect would add credibility to the movie.

Daens has to speak "proper Dutch", he's a priest and a teacher. And he has been to other places to... .

One thing about flemish films and series is that I often hear Antwerps. This is getting a littlebit annoying...
Flanders has indeed a lot of dialects and even a movie situated in Limburg got an Antwerp dialect... more than annoying.
