However, the author DID provide a very nice ending and figured we could figure the rest out for ourselves.
Maybe they did not show them getting the medal because it really wasn't as important as how they finally realized their love for each other.
share^this is correct. Much like Kate telling her father that she wishes "win or lose I wish I could just be your daughter" it doesn't matter if they won the gold.
But in the sequel you find out they did win the gold and got married.
I always thought it kind of went without saying they won the gold (I love the reaction of the judges when they land the Pamchenko), but that didn't matter as much as them finally admitting they're in love.
