Does the ending annoy anyone else?

Just found this film today on netflix and I quite enjoyed it, except in the end you don't see where they placed for the Olympics, are we to presume they win? They could have won, but then again the scoring could be biased or they could have been marked down/disqualified because of their new move (Torvil and Dean anyone?).

So yeah, did it annoy anyone else?

Poetic license was taken to the extreme for this ending to be sure.

The author had expected that the audience would assume that they were the new champs.

I would have appreciated a modified ending as well;

a) positive notification of winning
b) also getting the gold medal over that sleaze bag in second place
c) a more romantic ending than a simple kiss bent over in an awkward position.

but that's just me!!!

Whether they won or not wasn't what the end of the movie was all about. She needed to be tamed and realise what she wanted, once it was presented in front of her. Before, she never had the passion and was scared of losing - Dorsey had the passion. Of course, if they hadn't won, the scoring panel would have had to run for their lives.

I don't know what is wrong with the world - but I know how to fix it.

I liked the ending because you're left wondering what happened. Did they win? will the love they declare sustain? I believe the ending accomplishes much and gives the audience something to think about.

reply

Yeah I liked the ending. It let the audience decide what they think happened. I am sure they won the gold medal and got married.

Just re watched, remember watching when it came out, was 17 expecting my daughter and remembered my 3 and a half yr son liked the music, got a kick out of the fight over the music as well as the skating.

As for the ending, have to agree with other responses, allowed a person to think, to have the ending that we pretty much think will be without spelling it out. Today, the "they" say humans have less attention span than that of a goldfish, maybe because tv/movies/whatever is so filled with go go go and all is spelled out to the point "they" dont want you to think or have a mind of your own, (yanked from tv great shows that let you think as well as enjoy, and movies that dont slow down are called low...). Its just nice to enjoy watching something that isnt moving at full speed, even the sorta "sappy" ones like this, and will re watch knowing will enjoy next time too.

So you had a baby when you were 13 years old, and another when you were 17. How much time did the first father, and maybe the second father, serve?

reply

They didn't show you who won because it didn't matter to the two main characters.

They won. There is a sequel out there called Cutting Edge: Going for the Gold, which deals with their grown up daughter who is also an Olympic skater, and whenever they introduce her at competitions they say that she is the daughter of Olympic Gold Medalists Doug & Kate.

"Oh my God! You put a living room where the crack den used to be!"

The sequel was not written (or produced) by the same people, so its storyline is no more legitimate than if someone wrote a sequel to Gone with the Wind (since the original author or producer is not involved).

They win. After pulling off the Pamchenko (sp?), I think a viewer can safely assume they win the gold. Did you catch the look on the judges' faces when they land it?
