I'm assuming

that the British health care system didn't cover gender reassignment surgery at the time this movie was produced, otherwise it would have been a big plot hole, no pun intended. I am, of course, also assuming that the procedure is covered as of this posting. Perhaps somebody in the know could clarify the facts.
